Default Clarification on camshaft thrust bearing

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a little clarification during my first heads/cam and double roller timing chain swap. I've gotten up to the point where I have the new cam in and ready to install the new cam gear. I'm looking at the instructions that came with the timing chain and it says to install the "camshaft thrust bearing". Now i am pretty good with instructions and am mechanically inclined... But I don't remember removing a camshaft thrust bearing, nor did I receive one with the timing set. Do I need to purchase one separately? Cam is a TSP 224r and Cloyes Hex-a-just Double roller timing set. Thanks for the help =D

I think it depends on what cam retainer plate you used. I could be wrong tho.

The timing set should have come with a Torrington bearing.

It didn't. I went on Texas Speed's website and saw that the Cloyes timing chains don't come with bearings, but the Comp Cams chains do. Then I go onto Summit and Cloyes sells bearings separately.

So my question now is do I need a Torrington bearing?

If the timing set did not come with torrington, it cannot be added. The ones machined for the torrington will have a step in the rear gear where it touches the cam plate. Put the gear on the cam with everything together right without the chain or rockers on. The cam endplay will be around .003 if it's right, or about .125 if the bearing is missing.

That's a big help, thank you! I look at the instructions more and more and figured its probably a universal set of instructions they include with all of their timing chains. I just wanted to clarify so I don't mess up the install. Thank you very much for the input!
