HUMMER H3 Alpha LS1 Swap
I have a 2008 HUMMER H3 Alpha (LH8 5.3) and I'm looking for more power. I also have an F-body LS1 sitting in my shed collecting dust. I would like to install the LS1 in the H3 but I am unsure of a few things and I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I know I would have to change the 24x wheel on the LS1 crank to a 58x wheel and swap the front cover from the LH8 to the LS1 and use the proper cam sprocket. I would also have to install the LH8 knock sensors onto the LS1 block.
Does anyone know if I can put the Gen IV LH8 heads on the LS1 block?
While everything is apart, I would also install do a cam swap.
I know this is kind of backwards (2001 engine in a 2008 truck) but there's no replacement for displacement and I have the 5.7 just sitting around. Also, the LS1 has less miles on it than the LH8.

.4 L difference in and of itself probably won't matter that much will it? Certainly not enough to make it worth the expense and effort to put it in a hummer. If you are going to do it you might as well do it right and use a better motor. A turbo seems like a more sensible option.

I really don't want to use forced induction. I may do a cam only in the 5.3 and wait until I can afford a larger Gen IV engine. I'm just thinking about the LS1 because (if it works) I have the parts on hand.

That's alot of work to get the LS1 to work changing the reluctor wheel and all for a small gain. Sell the LS1 and put that toward a LY6 6.0L or a 6.2L L92. The LY6's are pretty affordable. All you would need is the long block with intake. Then just delete the VVT on the new motor. And a cam.

I'm not doing any forced induction and I want to stick with an aluminum block.
Brewster - I think it's an '00.
As usual, you guys are right. I last looked up prices on 6.0/6.2 aluminum block engines about a year and a half ago. I just did some more research and the prices have dropped significantly. I could sell the LS1 and be a 1/3 of the way to an L92.
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I still think the LS1 would be a neat swap, but I don't have THAT much free time. :-) And a cam swap in the stock 5.3 would probably come close to the same amount of time as just swapping the entire engine.

You are correct on the parts needed to be swapped over
Easiest way to get a 58x reluctor in the LS1 is to swap cranks with the 5.3
The 5.3's heads will most likely be 799's which are equivalent to LS6 heads. They will bolt onto the LS1 and be a nice upgrade
On the other hand, a mild cam and headers would put you over a stock LS1 with alot less effort than a swap
