5.3 to 5.7 cam question
Ok so I bought this 5.3 and it was junk full of water, looked as if a head gasket was bad and it sat for awhile. Well i took it to the machine shop and me and the owner talked about going to a 5.7 with it. He says he's done it countless times and it'll be reliable. I'm also going with flat top mahles and 243s milled 0.030 and ls7 lifters my question is what cam could I run and still be streetable? I know some of you guys had to have done it.

I won't have any ptv clearance issues with that huh? I think I'll be ok with clearance problems with these pistons anyways they have reliefs cut in them already. I just want somethin that will be good to cruise around in but still run pretty strong.

People always ask that but it really comes down to what your idea or streetable is. I always say my dad has the trex in his ls1 and with a vacuum pump since its an auto, my 90 year old grandma could drive it around.

Hopefully he sonic checks it first. You need to have it sonic checked before you do anything. I was going to to the same to the 5.3 I picked up and after I had the block checked we discovered that there would only be .100" of material left on the thrust side on two of the cylinders. Keep in mind you are boring the block from 3.78 to 3.898 so that is almost .120 total or .060 from each wall.
