Default oil changes on high consumption engine?

on my V6 DD camaro, I'm leaking/burning at least 1 full quart every 1000 miles.

basically, after 4500 miles, the oil still looks new. as long as the oil continues to look like a good color, should I even both to do an oil change? I was pondering just changing the filter every 5000 miles.

You could easily go 10k on both the oil and filter. Don't bother changing the filter alone, in 5k its not going to be dirty enough to bother changing.

pretty sure the oil pan is leaking pretty good. its wet in the front and rear, not just the rear, so i dont think its the rear main.

i got a new gasket, but i dont have an engine hoist. i tried to get the motor mounts apart without it, but wasnt having much luck... so i gave up.
