Gen iv 5.3 help please
I'm wanting to put an ls style 5.3 in my 71 chevelle I found one for sale near by a gen iv 5.3 out of an 07 Tahoe with 40k miles however it has that active fuel management afm on it. I'm wanting to make it carbureted with the msd box with some headers and leave the rest alone. How would that work with active fuel management? Can I just take the solenoid out or unplug it? Or would I have to get new lifters too? Also would I have any problems with variable valve timing as well?

You would have to delete d o d and v v t to hotrod the motor. Well new cam anyway
New lifters valley tray from a 4.8. Your cam is also probably a single bolt. So a ls2 3 bolt cam gear. Msd will fly as is with a carb and manifold but you will still have d o d cam and lifters. Your only mods without d o d delete would be headers.
