Default Upgrading a 98 PCM to 99 PCM and HP Tuners

I was thinking about upgrading my 98 pcm to a 99 pcm for my next build and buying HP Tuners.

Question is, can I download the current tune on the 98 pcm before the swap and copy/upload that tune to the 99 pcm somehow for initial start up using HP tuners?

Next question, is each pcm tied to a VIN number or something? Will I need another VIN or how will this work when installing a 99 pcm?

Thanks,
Casey

Im pretty sure this requires some re-wiring to be done. Its not a simple swap like 99+ cars. Yes on the Vin question, each pcm is tied to a vin so you will need to delete vats.

I am going to repin my harness for the 99 ecu. So, your correct its not just a ecu swap. So deleting vats is how you get around the vin thing?

HPT wont, but there are people who will re-vin the pcm and throw the stock tune on it to match whichever vin you have. It has to be within the same model year according to the guy that did mine. I had a 99 vin pcm but have an 01 HPT credit on my un supported HPT serial cable
