Have PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads and TSP 228R cam, upgrade time?
As the title says, I have PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads, and a 228R/112 cam in my stock-bottom-end 2000 C5 FRC. I was thinking of upgrading these heads and cam to something more substantial. I'd like to keep the cam as driveable as possible.
I was thinking of the PRC as-cast 225cc heads ( http://www.texas-speed.com/p-3961-pr...m-package.aspx ) and maybe a Torquer cam, or whatever would work best with those heads to make nice driveable power. Seems to be a very cost-effective setup if it works.
I have a FAST 92 + LS2 90mm TB, longtubes, offroad x pipe, etc. Last dyno I made 421rwhp/391rwtq SAE corrected on a Dynojet.
I would like to make at least 450rwhp and 400rwtq with the 'next phase'.
Texas Speed guys (and others) feel free to give advice.

fwiw, I made around the same power with those same heads and t2 cam. It is a great budget combo but you should be able to reach your goals with better heads and a custom grind cam. I'm sure you can contact one of the cam guru's on this site for a better cam choice.

I would like an excellent midrange also. I drive this car a lot. Couple times a week to work in the summer which is a 60-mile roundtrip commute, plus playing on the weekends. I would like lobes that are easy on valvetrain also.

I currently have a speed density tune in the car but the stock MAF is still in the intake tract, not sure how much restriction that would be at this point. The car has some kind of aftermarket catback on it, unknown brand, but it's pretty quiet, so there might be something hiding in there as well.
Honestly now I'm second-guessing my thought of changing it up. I guess if I can't get a solid 30-40rwhp+ gain with a different daily-driveable combo it's not worth it to me.

I dont know that i would touch it, sounds like with the setup and you drive it alot during the summer that your setup now works for you. If you go with bigger cam and heads it may hurt your driveability like you said. Just my 2 cents.

I was considering just leaving it alone or maybe swapping the heads and leaving the cam, and adding a little bit of spray. I've had many power adder cars but never a nitrous car.

I would put the money towards a turbo kit or building a 370ci engine set up that would be good for FI later down the road. If you like the driveability of the car right now i guess nitrous would be a good way to go but i want to have that power there all the time so i would go with the FI or bigger cube engine
