6.0 Block Identification

Question 6.0 Block Identification

Got a question, I know that I have a 6.0 engine, however not for sure what year. The reason that I need to know the year is because according to Texas Speed there are two different size cam bearings depending on what year it is. I called my local dealership and gave them the ID # that is on the front of the engine and they said that they had no way to determine what year it was. Does anyone know another way to determine what year it is or how to determine which size bearings I need so that I can order the correct bearings.

Measure camshaft bearing journals (with out bearings). If the 2 end bearing journals(front an rear) are different than the rest it's a later model block, if all are the same then its earlier production. Hope this helps.

You can also tell by head bolts. Mixed lengths (long and short) Pre-2004 (1st Generation). Same length 2004 and on blocks (2nd Generation). Hopefully that can help you narrow down your generation of block.

I don't know if this helps but my '04 iron 5.3 block has cam bearing bore dimensions of 2.35", except #3 which is 2.31"

Guys, I think that I have figured it out.

According to Texas Speed website the, Durabond Camshaft Bearing Set for 1st Gen LS1 Engine Block item# 171-CH10 measurement's are as follows 1st Housing Bore: 2.3260, 5th Housing Bore: 2.3280.

According to Texas Speed website the, Durabond Camshaft Bearing Set for 2nd Gen LS1 Engine Block item# 171-CH23 measurement's are as follows 1st Housing Bore: 2.3460, 5th Housing Bore: 2.3480.


I do have the 1 st Generation block.
