Chevelle Sweep guage with Stepper motor conversion
Hey guys , im modifying the original mechanical sweep gauge for the speedo and am using your standard newer style electric sweep guage using a stepper motor for a late model s10/blazer.
Its a 4 post stepper motor and im trying to figure out what i need to actually drive it as i already have a 2000 5.3/4l60e powertrain installed and vss wiring up to the cluster.
I dont think its just a simple ground and vss sig to the apprpriate pins without something else telling which magnets to turn on in the stepper motor for correct needle movement.
Does anybody know what type of factory controller interprolates the vss sig to do this?
Worst case i will just buy a cheap used guage off ebay and hack out whats needed to run this, but am hoping its just something i can buy.
Please let me know as im ready to get the dash back in.

The sweep can be adjusted through the tuning software for the most part to correct it.
Looks like i need a driver for this stepper motor to function( which seem to run in 100 buck range) so im just going to get a cheap cluster to get what i need for the swap. Already found a 98-02 cluster for 20 bucks shipped.

Here's a link to a speedo I made for my '71 C-10 using a '96-7 S-10 speedo, it has pics of the circuit board that runs the speedo and odometer motors. Not sure it will help you but it might? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=512751

Yeah i was thinking of possibly raising the needle higher to get the sweep closer to the 2000 camaro cluster im planning to purchase. And i was thinking of maybe putting the electonic odometer in the unused lever gear select window above the column but hell, who cares about an accurate odometer on a hot rod lol.
Good work on that truck cluster! That looked real nice.
I was actually seriously thinking about redoing the numbers and lines to raise the max mph to 150 or 160 on the original back plate.
We use a local old screenprinter for some of my work stuff and im betting he could do it , but havent persued it just yet.
