Default 1999 Camaro Z28 193k miles...

Hey im new here although ive always checked out the form but i need some advice. I found this here. http://www.nipponautonj.com/1999-Chevrolet-Camaro/Used-Car/Newark-NJ/2344/2527907/Details.aspx
I want to get rid of my Civic and one of my "dream" cars has always been this model of the z28. The dealer wants 3900 according to the site which is the best deal I've seen for that model within a 150 mile radius of where I live. How much do you think I should offer? I was thinking about offering 2700 because I will most likely deal with engine and transmission problems which would be a massive gamble at 190k miles which that alone can set me back 4-5k. I figured I'd settle at 3000 tops for it and in a few months rebuild the tranny and motor. What do you guys think?

Your thinking is correct but you still have to realize that every other component of the car has been through that nearly 200,000 miles grind as well, from the a/c to the suspension. Constant repairs are no way to enjoy a 'dream' car. It could become a nightmare instead. I would save up and look for a better example.

like what NC01TA said, your thinking is on the right track except for one major part...if your planning on spending an extra 4-5k on rebuilding the motor and/or trans why not just get a low mile z28?? bc even after you replace those parts your still stuck with a 200k+ z28 that nobody is going to buy from you unless you sell it for practically nothing. 7-9k you can find a z28 with less than 100k on it.

Thanks for the replies. I would love too, but can't find any in Brooklyn or anywhere near NY. I either see people selling them in perfect condition for 15-20k or a V6 for near 5k. The Z28s for 5k-7k that I find are states away. Well I haven't made a decision yet, but thanks for the inputs. Will probably speak to the dealer soon. If the car has had many parts replaced with proof then I'll consider it. If not I'll keep looking.

Patience is the key on this one. You will find a better one, just dont rush at all.

Totally agree. Do NOT settle!
So what if a car is several states away. You are talking about thousands of dollars here for an important purchase. Don't fret over one weekend of travel, gas, cheap motels, and fast food. A few hundred dollars can be well worth it. My last car purchase (the SS) was up in Pittsburgh, 500 miles from my home. Before that, my GT was found up near Washington DC, another 500 mile trip. Both were completely worth it. It's fun too!
To avoid disappointment, thoroughly question the seller about the car with numerous photos sent to you. Get the Carfax too. If you feel comfortable after all this, then you are most likely set for that road trip and purchase. Best of luck!!
