DD gear change advice.
Hello,
Im working on putting together a 2002 camaro m6. When completed the car will have an LQ9 forged bottom end, TFS 225cc heads, and an EPS custom grind cam and FAST 92/92. I think ill be making close to 480whp (i know i have high hopes...)
Anyway im going to put in a MWC 9" rear with all the suspension components, but im stuck on gears. Im gonna DD this car, so i dont wanna give up to many mpg's. I know alot of guys with m6 cars do the 4.10 gears, but what about 3.9?
I know the difference is about 300RPM when cruising at 60, but how much does that affect the mpgs? anyone done this, or any input in general?
Thanks

I'm in the same debate myself. My cousins ss has them and he swears on back roads it made it a lil better and didn't effect the highway but maybe one or two but then again if we were worried MPG we would be driving civics haha

You say it's a DD, do you plan on 1/4 mile racing it? If you are then the gear ratio you choose is dependent on things like tire size and rpm through the traps. If you're not going to race it then 3.89s will work good for you. I lost 1 mpg around town with my 4.10s, don't know about highway milage change as I haven't had the car on any long trips. With the T56 double overdrive steep gears aren't the handicap they used to be for a DD.
