6L80 2-3 flare up
I am having a persistent issue I can't figure out. The car is a 2010 SS with a 418. Trans got rebuilt after getting fried. It is equipped with a Circle D 3200 single disc converter. Ever since it got rebuilt it has a flare up between 2-3 shift. 2 different tuners have not been able to correct it.We went back to stock trans tune and I had the transmission rebuilt again, (we did find a few things wrong) and had the converter repaired by Circle D (overheated). Put it all back together and same thing. I have not gone back to the tuner to get the trans re-tuned. What could we be overlooking? is internal or tuning?

sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but my girlfriend's 2010 ss does the same thing. has done it since new. we tuned it and still have the same thing. i haven't dug too much into this, but my tuner says they all do it and its probably something to do with the program in the computer.

Don't know if it helps, but Chris from CircleD and others discuss it and a GM bulletin on the 2-3 flare problem in this thread:

My local trans guy recently showed me a 6L80 with a common problem where the input drum has a tiny leak at one of the welds which IIRC can cause flare problems.

Many things to check.
Needs the updated pump cover with new style sealing rings
Check for cracks in 3-5-R housing around welds
You can vacuum test the valve body, have seen a lot of worn valve bodies lately.
What 3-5-R clutches are in it? And travel? I shoot for .080-.100
