Default is a 255 enough?

hey all. just bought a set of 4 factory 16x 8 camaro rims. looking into drag radial options. i am interested in either the mickey thompson 255/50/16 or the 295/50/16. I'd really like to run the 295's but i have a eibach lowering kit, and i dont think the 28' tire will fit. so my question is... will it? And if not, will the 255 hook up 400whp or am i wasting my money? thanks again. -John

A 295 will not fit on that narrow of a rim.

Actually believe it or not Lemons the 295/50s are approved for 8-10" by BFG and Hoosier. But OP the 255s should be plenty in that compound.

a 295/50r16 is fine on a 16x8. I ran them on my S10 with stock 16x8 Xtreme wheels. They look a little bit bulged, but as long as you don't over-inflate them they will wear evenly. I ran them at 17-20psi for the track and it hooked good and lasted a long time.

Google pics to see what I'm talking about.

But to answer your question, a 255 is enough to hook if your car is setup right and the track is prepped decent. There's really too many variables to say definitively yes or no though.

Check out this car with 295/50/16s on the 16 x 8s.
