I've always used the gate type shifter vs the ratchet style! Just my "shifter opinion" tho, never had a mustang! If it's a race car, the cheeta shifter seems to be very popular! For street there are lots of nice gate type 3 speed shifters out there!

It's a real pain to get something to work within the space of the stock shifter. This is what I did in my 94, using a 04 console. B&M ratchet shifter. I planned on getting a boot to clean it up but haven't had the time.
