Default Spongy Clutch

Alright so im by far no mechanic, so hope ya fellas can point me in the right direction .... ive got a 98 z28 6 speed .... When the car is cold, the clutch is spongy til depressed about 1/4-1/2 down ... sometimes i notice while its like this, when i downshift it will sometimes grind, and needs a little more pressure when going into gear (still goes into gear without having to force it)! ... after i get about 8-10 miles on the car, clutch stiffens up to normal and it shifts extremely smooth .... im sure the fluids havent been changed, as i just purchased this car used from a private sale ... and insight would be great. Thanks

Flush the fluids. Could have air in the lines or some gunk.
