What to expect with a 226/234 cam and a 3600 stall?
My 4l60e needs a rebuild and I've been wanting to get the Yank SS3600 for a while now, so I look at the rebuild as a good excuse for putting a new converter in there too. Needless to say I'll get a decent tranny cooler.
I've also been doing some research since I want a cam. The Ai cam kit seems like a good choice. I'll be traveling to the States soon where I'll able to stuff and hide packages (cam kit?) in my luggage before I head back home, avoiding the Icelandic 50% customs charge and saving a lot of money in the process.
Main mods in sig. A cam/stall seems like the next logical step. Car has 60k miles.
I'm not necessarily narrowing it down to off the shelf cams, but the 226/234-.566"/.566"-110 LSA Ai grind has a good reputation here and seems great for a daily driven car.
What do you say? What can I expect as far as 1/4 performance goes at sea level with a proper tune and good tires?

Wow, Lizard - 60k miles....you have a cherry there!
For a daily driven all-purpose car, I'd say that's nearly a perfect match.
Heads up: If you want an AI cam, talk to them well in advance of your Stateside visit. Sometimes there's a wait for a batch of billet cam cores.
With solid suspension mods, sticky tires, and a good tune, that cam and converter will easily get you into the 11's and mid-teens mph in average conditions. But........what about your rearend ??

I appreciate the replies guys. I'd be very happy with low 12's. I've never taken the car to the drag strip, but I know the previous owner ran a 13.7@100mph stock other than !cats and "some muffler".
I'm pretty set on this cam. What shift points do you think will get the most out of it?
Yeah, the 10-bolt leaves me in the same boat as a lot of f-body owners, hoping it won't break. It was freshened up a couple of years ago with Motive 3.73's, a Trick Flow girdle cover and seals and bearings. Maybe it will break the first time out, maybe it will survive countless runs? I'm running Toyo R888 315's that hook great, but I don't see myself running at the track more than 2-3 times this summer at least.

I went 6500 shift point and had pat. gold springs with LT headers and full exhaust.
Stock everything else with a 3600 stall. 3.23 gears and a slick running 10s and ran 12.1s with 17" street tires.

Those tires are junk and I had 315 35 17 nittos on my car and it worked out well.
But would only do 12.2s on that setup
Then went with a 26/10/15 slick and prostar setup and ran 12.1s or better.
WIth spray that is the only way it would hook and book

My 18" OE wheels aren't the lightest wheels either but for the price I got the Toyo's for I'm not gonna complain. At least they look bad ***.
Cam/valve train upgrades aside, revving to 6500 seems like plenty of rpm for the stock bottom end, or does it?

PCM of NC has a great cooler.
Take a look at the PCM cooler - Gen 4 specific: http://www.pcmofnc.com/index.php?opt...170&Itemid=106. Its installed in series and after the radiator internal trans cooler on my car.
BTW any new volcanoes over there? We hear your do for the big one soon. Ortha her name?
Good luck,

Stout results for a 355 with home ported heads. Looks like you did your homework before you took a grinder to them!

B&M has nothing like it.
Any clown can post a better deal without a part number. So i waste my time to look at the B&M website and there's nothing like my PCM4less trans cooler let alone mounting brackets for Gen 4 camaro. Just a bunch of nylon ties that hang it on the radiator like a "Bubba" job. Sure, any Bubba can hang a cheaper trans cooler on the radiator. Mine is mounted to the core support before the radiator and get first shot at the air coming off the air dam. Now lets hear some clown post the part number for the B&M cooler and with brackets- good luck.

I've been running this for 7 years. Super clean install, great fitment, no temp problems.
If you want to mount it anywhere else you can. But it's not my fault you can't fabricate a bracket yourself and have to pay an additional $70.

Call me cheap, but I'm just running a big Hayden RV tranny cooler that was like 30 bucks, with the "Bubba Job" nylon ties to the stock rad. Its rated for like 30,000# GVW so has done just fine on a street driven LT1 .
