Exclamation Catalytic converter clearance problems

I just installed a stainless works catted Y, and
when installing it I noticed there may have been
A clearance issue on the driver side cat. So I adjusted
it the most I could. It had about a 1/4 inch of clearance
Between the cat and the heat shield. So now that it's
installed it rubs the heat shield sometimes. It's really annoying!
So I'm thinking about cutting of the heat shield and the
brackets that hold it on, giving me another inch of
clearance. And then using an after market heat tape to
Keep heat from coming up through the floor board.
Has anyone done this before? If so does it work!

Having 1/4" of clearance should be enough with poly engine mounts, otherwise try using a jack and a short section of thick walled metal pipe, or small block of wood in the area needing a little more clearance.
