Default How Much Boost Will It Take?

Hey guys, im looking at possibly buying an a&a vortech kit for my c5 that has an LS3 in it. My goal is to make a safe and reliable 600rwhp. I have a cam in the motor and headers. That car already makes about 470rwhp 455rwtq. The cam is a TSP 231/236 114lsa, .641/.615 lift. With that said how much boost would it take to hit 600rwhp safely with a good tune? I need my stock block to last me. The motor is stock except the cam and the trans and rear end are already built. Thanks.

Typically, on a good set up you get 20hp per pound of boost. If you're making 470 now and want 600, you're asking for a 130 hp gain. 130/20 = 6.5lbs roughly. It can absolutely handle that. The LS3's are awesome for boost, we routinely build them to 600-700rwhp boosted for customers without any issues.

The tuning and fueling is very important...so go to a tuner you trust, and make sure you have enough fuel pump and injector to get you there.

My personal heads/cam LS3 Camaro makes 698rwhp at 10lbs of boost (TVS 2300) with no problems. You really can't beat these motors! We love those A&A kits too, they install very nicely and the performance is great as well. Be sure to upgrade to the V3 head unit, it's self contained oiling, and it's a cheap upgrade.

Thanks a lot Alvin. Its a complete but used kit im getting from a trusted local corvette forum vendor. I want the motor to last so im not looking to get crazy with it. Nice to know even 7psi will get me there or very close. Ill make sure I get bigger injectors and a boost a pump.

Yeah Id say 8 psi would get you there... plenty of room to turn it up.

No problem. The cam shaft you have will work just fine and literally 7 pounds of boost should get you there without question. After that I would look at doing a custom cam. The LS3 blower motors typically like quite a bit less intake duration and quite a bit more exhaust duration than what you have listed. A good bit wider lobe on the exhaust side will help the car take timing and stay safe on pump gas with more boost down the road.

My c5 makes 670hp 623 tq on 14 psi with a bone stock ls6.So you should have no problem making the power that you want.

Well I finally came up on the Vortech kit. Should see around 7-8psi of boost. Expecting to be driving the car at the end of the week.

Got some pictures from the tech working on the car. Waiting on some tubing but its coming along nicely.
