3rd at 65 would have been perfect to pull. I think everyone here would agree with that. 4th rings out at 138-140, but at 65mph... you're like 3k rpm.
The GT\CS model is the heaviest one, so that'll be the best to run. LOL
But seriously, headers, intake, tune, and driver mod... you shouldn't have an issue pulling a bit on one. Are we talking smoking its doors off? No. We're talking a slow walk. WALKING away from it.
This guy probably launched with TC on which bogged the **** out of him, and you can see he was still about to pull on the stang at the end (another H\C LS6 it looks like)
This is what being in the wrong gear would look like:
The new 5.0s are no slouches... you won't walk one in a stock V unless you weigh 60-70lbs, and the 5.0 starts in the wrong gear, or does something else to botch up the run.
[edit]
Blatant showing off of some pulls right in the powerband. Last run with my friend was 30mph in 5th, and i let off, but I did go all the way WOT in 5th after the honks... just shows how horrible it can be to be in the wrong gear.

I raced a Kenne bell 5.0 in fort worth a couple weeks ago, not sure of the mods it had but it was crazy loud! He did not murder me by any stretch. Went 50-150 and he got me by about a car and a half. Mods are just CAI headers and magnaflows. I was unimpressed by the mustang. Except for how fricken loud it was.

The video posted above is me running a new 5.0. In this first video from the dig, I was unaware we were going to run from a dig so I still had TC/Stabilitrak on due to the extremely short notice (U-turn on highway to directly running) which caused horrible bogging issues and a bad launch and by the top of 3rd I had pulled about a fender on him. Keep in mind the 5.0 i'm running is an auto. Camera man sucks and didn't finish recording the entirety of the race...
In this next one, we went from something like a 35-40 roll. I started in second and once I hit third, I put a couple cars on the 5.0. I'm just a Heads/Cam/Exhaust car, no nitrous or anything with a tired motor that smokes and I put a lead on him...
