Default Ls2 CTS-V vs 5.0

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. But what does it take for a ls2 caddy to run with the 5.0. Are these cars close stock or do they just blow us away. Thanks for any input.

I ran one from a 65 car loaded and barely pulled him by a fender. That was me staying in 4th the whole way to 145ish

And the sane day the 5.0 ran a 12.99 on slicks. Only mod was a pair of magnaflows.

Reason you barely pulled is you started in the wrong gear.
3rd at 65 would have been perfect to pull. I think everyone here would agree with that. 4th rings out at 138-140, but at 65mph... you're like 3k rpm.

The GT\CS model is the heaviest one, so that'll be the best to run. LOL

But seriously, headers, intake, tune, and driver mod... you shouldn't have an issue pulling a bit on one. Are we talking smoking its doors off? No. We're talking a slow walk. WALKING away from it.

Thats what I'd expect from H\C setup V.

Just intake\tune.

This guy probably launched with TC on which bogged the **** out of him, and you can see he was still about to pull on the stang at the end (another H\C LS6 it looks like)

This is what being in the wrong gear would look like:
I ran this Evo (good friend of mine) a few times, and from 20mph in 1st, I pulled without question... 40mph in 2nd, I pulled as well. 30mph roll, I was expecting him to go up to 40, but he stood right in 30 and honked it off... so I ended up having to run in 2nd and he stood with me for a bit. The thing is... rolling from 65 in 4th is horrible. It puts you at something like 3000rpm... and you want to be 4000+rpm (especially with a cam) from a roll.

The new 5.0s are no slouches... you won't walk one in a stock V unless you weigh 60-70lbs, and the 5.0 starts in the wrong gear, or does something else to botch up the run.

[edit]
Blatant showing off of some pulls right in the powerband. Last run with my friend was 30mph in 5th, and i let off, but I did go all the way WOT in 5th after the honks... just shows how horrible it can be to be in the wrong gear.

Its gonna take heads/cam/longtubes for a V to run with an intake/tune/midpipe 5.0. With those mods they are trapping 116-119mph.

I raced a Kenne bell 5.0 in fort worth a couple weeks ago, not sure of the mods it had but it was crazy loud! He did not murder me by any stretch. Went 50-150 and he got me by about a car and a half. Mods are just CAI headers and magnaflows. I was unimpressed by the mustang. Except for how fricken loud it was.

The video posted above is me running a new 5.0. In this first video from the dig, I was unaware we were going to run from a dig so I still had TC/Stabilitrak on due to the extremely short notice (U-turn on highway to directly running) which caused horrible bogging issues and a bad launch and by the top of 3rd I had pulled about a fender on him. Keep in mind the 5.0 i'm running is an auto. Camera man sucks and didn't finish recording the entirety of the race...

In this next one, we went from something like a 35-40 roll. I started in second and once I hit third, I put a couple cars on the 5.0. I'm just a Heads/Cam/Exhaust car, no nitrous or anything with a tired motor that smokes and I put a lead on him...

Unfortunately, that time has neared. It has done well for having nearly 140,000 miles on it so I can't complain, but that is something I'll be posting a new thread about here in the near future.

Thanks for the info guys. I think there is alot of hype on the new 5.0s. Ive never seen one run over 114mph with boltons. Just the guys on the internet that have weight reduction or not telling the truth about there mods.

Sounds right. The Coyote takes well to mods... the removal of the cats is worth a good 10ish alone on them.

I figured as much, its noticable in the launch. Smoking like that... could be valve stem seals. Does it smoke from a stop too?

I wasn't trying to race just messing around. Which is the reason I left in 4th. I'm just trying to baby it until I get my truck running again.
