Default Going carb... No more plans of boost

Well, I've built several turbo cars, mostly mustangs and I've never owned a carb v8. So, my plans have changed as I'd like to go carb with my 4.8. I'm honestly fed up with the amount of maintenance a turbo car requires and want something simple but quick. I plan to occasionally run nitrous. Hoping a 150 hit would put me in the 10's.

With what I have listed below, what cam should I go with? What carb size ? Should I go Vic jr or performer rpm?

Looking to spin the motor to 6800-7000 rpm. Car is not daily driven. It's a weekend street driven track car.

Here is what my setup is:

2002 low mile 4.8
Lightly ported 862 heads with fresh valve job
PAC 1218 valve springs
Hardened pushrods ( waiting on cam to order)
Ls9 head gaskets
Arp head bolts
Msd 6010

Built th400 on footbrake
3500 stall
3.73 gears

Long tubes, no cats, 2.5 in duals
Fox mustang tail pipes

Mustang weighs 3200 with me in it.

Will be fun, but i say move the power band to 7500 and have the rev limiter at 7600-7700. Spin it higher to get the power out of it. The shorter stoke will allow more RPM and have less piston speed than a 5.3 or larger. Use whatever the gaskets for the 862 came with. The larger bore gasket on a small bore motor does not go well.

Otherwise, up the converter size to a 5000 with the larger cam and able to spin 7500 and it will be a blast. The lower TQ a 4.8 has will not allow a larger converter to work as well as a larger engine, so compensate with a larger stall speed i say. Allow that thing to get into some power.

A Vic Jr would go well with what i have mentioned. A 650 DP carb will be right up the 4.8s alley.

I would assume I will need aftermarket rod bolts at a minimum right?

What cam?

Rod bolts are a safety measure but I have never used them.

I would have Martin at tick spec out a cam so you get the most out of the engine in that power band. Otherwise a torqer V2 cam would put you there easily. On 111 LSA. Don't think they offer it in a 110.

I agree with a custom cam for carb application. These motors love rpm. I also agree with more stall speed. Ideally you want the converter to flash to peak torque area. 5000 ish stall unless you plan to spray all the time, then you can run tighter.

wondering if my TH400 is ultimately overkill for my 4.8? ive already accepted that i will be running 3.73's or 4.10's....with those gears, even a glide wouldnt be a bad option..

I went with a TH350 solely because it will go faster than a TH400, but the 400 is stronger

With a TH350-4.10 gears-275/60 drag radials my car ran a best of 6.65 with a 1.47 60 ft foot braking.

I went to a glide cause I needed a trans brake and every builder I talked to told me a 350 wouldn't hold up. I plan on doing some index racing.

I put the glide in but left the 4.10 gear. Car slowed to a 1.62 60ft and went a 6.82. On the transbrake it went 1.57 60ft and a 6.72.

I put a 4.56 gear in and 60' went to 1.54 foot brake and 1.49 trans brake.
