98 ls1-241 heads-99 PCM/harness
Hello, Ive been on this forum for a while, but mostly just searched various things to get a bit of info here and there..
I'm completely new to ls series engines as I mostly only have experience with imports however, now I'm attempting to build an ls1 and drop it onto my Nissan s13.
I am currently replacing the 98 heads with casting 241 heads that have lunati gold dual springs ect also swapping in a Texas speed 224/228r cam and throwing a Slp oil pump n comp double roller. This is where I am at on the motor modifications at the moment. I have purchased a swap specific harness for 99-01 PCM with Dakota digital boxes to hopefully scoot the build along a bit quicker, however a few questions have come to mind n I'm hoping I haven't made a real bad decision..
The questions I have are:
1- can I use this custom harness with a 99 PCM on my 98 ls? If so is there any different sensors or any kind of relocation of anything I need to be aware of to use this setup?
2- Will I have any issues using the 241 casting heads on my 98 block?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance if anybody helps! Sorry For the noob questions...
Thanks, Brian

The answer to # 2 is 241 heads will work on a 98 block but the valve covers are center
bolt and 98 heads are perimeter bolt. You will have to get center bolt valve covers. I think
the coil pack mounts are different.

If you can use a 2001-2002 Computer/Harness but a 99-02 harness are similar enough to share them.
Also you shouldn't need a dakota digital box for the tach or speedo. You can configure those outputs just about however you'd like.

98 fbody owner here.
When I did my heads and cam (swapped to ported 243's) I needed different valve covers (center bolt style) and coil pack racks. With 98 cars the coil packs mount directly to the valve cover. With the newer style heads there is a bracket they all rest on.
Your harness will be fine though. As long as you actually have the 99+ pcm and not 98 you shouldnt run into a problem.

Thank you all for the replies.
The 241 heads are also ported, they did come with valve covers also so I'll just need the brackets for the coil packs n I should be alright there..
That makes me feel a lot better although, I still only have my '98 PCM. I had spent over $800 on this harness/ chassis harness, so buying a corresponding PCM as opposed to another harness to work with my '98, is perfectly fine with me. Especially because from what I hear, the newer PCM also has a bit more capabilities than the '98.
Any suggestions on where to purchase a good '99+ PCM?

The 98 pcm is just slower so when you get into high hp numbers it cant keep up with the calculations. A 99+ harness though does not pin up correctly to the 98 so youll need a new one. I do not know a good place to buy one. Your best bet is probably ebay.
