Default lug nuts

Have been searching around and different posts seem to say different things. Need a set of lug nuts since mine have started to shed the outer crappy plastic like coat layer. Size? some say 12x1.5 some say 14x1.5. Most in fact say 12x1.5 but another post says only the first few mm are size 12 and the rest of the bolt is a 14...someone save me the trouble of taking lug nuts off and measuring)

I recommend McGard Spline Drives. 65357 for chrome and 65357bk for black. They're super expensive, but they're indestructible and will save you (and your wheels, thanks to their floating core) in the long run. If you want black lugs, you'll find that their finish is second to none in terms of chip resistance.

I'll agree with this goofball for once.

Go with McGards... Expensive but awesome lug nuts.

As abrasive as he can be his logic is sound in most situations dealing with mechanical issues of the car.

Amazon has the chrome ones in stock right now. They're presently sold out of black ones--I picked up the their last set of four earlier this week.

I would pull the trigger on that, but I have my heart set on a black set. I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and wait.

My guess is you're reading some threads about V1s (which are 12mm-1.5) and some about V2s (which are 14mm).

It would be ok if the first few threads of the bolt are 12 and the rest 14, the 14s would engage first.... it would be stupid, and hard to make work for no benefit...

Are you replacing them because of just looks?

Don't you have the caps that screw over the lugs?
