4.8 turbo motor ?s
so i picked up an 06 4.8 for cheap and am tearing it down cleaning it all up and checking it all over.already have cam, springs, melling oil pump,pr's.im gonna throw all new gaskets and was wondering/asking foose04 about head stud kit and running ls9 gaskets also?should i go ahead and run that and also what all is needed to throw a ls2 timing chain on it while in there?do i just need the chain or sprocket with it also? thanks

its in my truck i broke my 6.0 and am starting tear down but picked up this 06 4.8 pretty cheap and wanna throw it back in for time being till i get my 6.0 built back up.i have me custom cam, springs, pushrods, oil pump already.would be happy with 6/650 to the wheels.the motor has 115k on it.i was just wondering about timing chain bc i can get ls2 style through my dealership for like 75 bucks and the stock one is a lil loose but if i shouldnt worry bout it i wont spend that money.

The Ls2 chain swaps right on, but I wouldn't waste my time with that. For not a whole lot more money you can get an adjustable double roller. And I would have someone like Brian Tooley, Pat G, or Ed Curtis spec a cam for what you're doing. ...but that's just me.

just use all the stock ****, if you are going to run 10lbs of boost or more get 60-140 dollar behives that drop in place, comp or pac 1218s
run the ls9 cam its a cheap upgrade works great for a 4.8 motor.
other than that dont waste money on chains, pumps, and other bullshit

Like Matt said. Use the stock stuff i've been running a 4.8 for months 20psi blown two sets of stock gaskets and still running hard. You cant upgrade perfection. haha !

Summit has the chain by itself for $30. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sm...make/chevrolet
But, like Matt said, the stock **** works good. The only timing chain failures I've heard of were with 250k+ miles on the engine.
The '06 already has MLS head gaskets, but it you want studs, you can do $50 ebay studs and a $35 pair of LS1 MLS head gaskets from Jegs. Or be a boos and reuse the stock ones. haha http://www.ebay.com/itm/310584589899...84.m1438.l2649

PAC1218 are good for price if I was to spend more on a dual spring setup go with tooley..and listen to denmah he has beat the hell out of every factory part that comes in these ls motors from the factory so he has good first hand experience what to replace with ur goals in mind
