Default Advance cam?

Im thinking about advancing my cam about 2 degrees. It is a 230/238 .600/.603 @ 112+3 LSA. I have noticed alot of you guys are running a LSA in the 108-110 with +3-4 range. This motor is pretty gutless below 4500 and at 7000 its still pulling pretty hard so Im thinking if I advance 2 degrees that would move the rpm range down about 600 rpm and hopefully help with my 1.72 60'. What are your guys thoughts? Thanks

You could advance the cam 2* and it would lower the torque curve down some RPM, it will however be a compromise for trying to make additional torque that a narrower LSA would give you, ultimately with less than desirable results.

The better way to go, if you are running a carburettor, would be to get a similar cam on a 110(+3) LSA which will give you more overlap and in turn help build more torque earlier in the RPM range.

Advancing your cam will help out with what you are trying to do, but like VLS1 said, not as well as if the cam was ground with the LSA you want. Ive played with retard/advance with the SBC platform and it worked well at moving the personality of the cam higher or lower in the rev range. I say go for it ,and if it helps down low, put a tighter cam on your Christmas list, LOL.

You might advance it 3 degrees. I don't think 2 degrees will move your peak power 600 RPM. I am thinking 2 degrees will move your peak power more like 200-300 RPM.

Agree, but still less than ideal valve events, and might possibly run into some P/V clearance concerns maybe.

I understand all that. Im just curious to see if it makes a difference. If it does then im probably gonna cut the pistons and get a bigger cam with a tighter LSA.
