Default Question about knock sensors

I'm in the middle of doing heads and cam and decided to check the sensors. The front one was corroded and rusty, rear one was covered in oil. Are they suppose get oil on them or be sealed from both sides? Going to replace both regardless.

the front one usually gets corroded due to water that may get stuck under the manifold. However i dont remember seeing oil in my rear one. I went ahead and added sealant around the knock sensors to help avoid further corroding.

The galley cover has seals in it where the knock sensors go through. Get new seals and the outer galley gasket before you reinstall the intake.
