Pre-load Adjustment
After installing the heads, I went through and torqued all the rocker arms to 22ft-lbs, not rotating the motor, just zipping all of them down. I'm thinking thats not what I should have done. If I go back and re-do them I should turn 1/4 to 3/4 turn past zero lash???? How bad (or not bad) is it that I didnt exactly "measure" my preload?

What he said. The stock LS1 rockers aren't adjustable...if you try to use them that way and go zero lash + whatever instead of tightening the bolts to spec, they'll loosen and you'll have noise and/or damage.
Usual process is torque them all to 22 lb/ft, rotate engine two full revolutions, then re-check at 22 lb/ft. The rotation compresses the lifters and ensures you're torquing the bolt against the head, not the valvespring + lifter.
I did mine by bringing each cyl to TDC firing stroke and torquing, following the firing order.
