Default Project build emission question

I am in the process of doing an LT1 to LS1 build here in Dallas, TX.
car is a 97 pontiac LT1. As i am doing an LQ4 swap with no emission equipment besides o2 sensors and dual cats to an X pipe with dual mufflers.
I have heard that from 96 and newer cars they only scan the PCM for error codes. They dont do the sniffing part of the exhaust.
I will have longtube headers. Will delete air pump, EGR components and of course i will need to get a PCM tune with all the required stuff disabled.
Plan is pass emissions.

Let me know what you guys think or recommend.

Thanks,

Since the vehicle is titled a 97' then you will get hooked up to the computer not the tail pipe. The hard part will be getting the computer to comunicate as a 97' model. HP tuners will not work if O.S. does not match the VIN. I have been told Tuner cats or others will.

So basically i need a tune for the PCM to match to the cars VIN.

I believe so, yes. That is down side to doing a build in certain year models. There is always a way though.... $$$$.

This tuner sounds promising. Might have to go this route as they can disable VATS, emissions and change the VIN.
