4l60e identification
Im sure this has been addressed before but I cant find what im looking for. I have a 4l60e trans that I have been told came out of a 99 ls1 camaro and am wanting to verify it. Im not sure what number on the trans is the one that breaks it down. Can anyone help me with the number that I need and how to understand it.

Look for a sticker with 4 large (3/4" tall) characters. The first will be a digit corresponding to the year; so it should start with 9xxx.
More importantly, it should have a removable bell housing and a bolt hole in the 12 O'OClock position indicating a 300mm input shaft. '98 through '06 are all interchangeable if they are 300mm.

If it looks like that, you are good to go.

Additionally, the stamped numbers on the underside of the trans....next to the oil pan and extension housing will tell exactly what year/model it came from. I just went through this on my current build.

mrvedit. I found the sticker you talked about and it has a 9FFD, I also looked at the stamped numbers on the bottom that salemetro mentioned which were 9FFD168E 21625589. I was wondering if you guys know where I can go to find out the details of that number. The other question I have is how does the yoke work on this trans, it doesn't slip in like the older trannys do. I am putting this trans and LS1 engine in a 69 C10 truck and am trying to figure out what I need for a drive line, u-joints and such. Thanks for your help guys.

Here's some help to I.D. yours. Looks like yours is from a 99 fbody.
EDIT: Just noticed that you stated that it's not a slipyoke style tail shaft? Strange....it should be a slip yoke style. Maybe someone else will chime in here?

As far as I know, every 4L60E is a yoke style output shaft. A TH350 yoke will fit, but the 4L60E supports a longer yoke and that is recommended.
I suspect that is some corrosion on either the output shaft or the yoke you are testing.
If necessary, remove the tail shaft from the 4L60E to clean the output shaft and check the yoke.
Why do you want "details on that number"? All '98 through '06 4L60E with a 300mm input shaft are interchangeable. Later years ('03) are a bit stronger (e.g. hardened sun shell), but externally and electrically identical.

The yoke wiggles back and forth like it is attached somehow. When someone removed the drive shaft they took it appart at the u joint instead of slipping out the yoke. I will do some more looking at it and try to see how it attaches. I appreciate your help and advice.
