Cylinder head ?
Just got the LS1 shortblock back from the machine shop & was looking for advice on the heads. It's a stock newer gen LS1 (coated pistons, piston bay breathing windows, etc.). It only needed a light hone, & standard machining (upgraded to ARP rod bolts). Anyways, I have a set of 241 heads that I was going to use. It's a carb'ed dual plane app & I'll be having Martin spec out a cam/spring package. I was wondering if I should just get a clean up valve job, spend more (about $300) for a multi angle valve job, spend even more for 243/799 heads & get them prepped, or do AI port work ($1000) on the 241's. It's going to be a mild torque motor with good street manners (looking for max rpm of 6500). Machine shop (well respected race shop that has built a lot of LS's for various NHRA classes) basically told me to spend the money on cam/springs, but just clean up the 241's as the midrange power band I'm looking for won't be improved enough from 3500-6000+ range on the street to justify the money. What's your guys thinking? After talking to them I'm thinking on just cleaning these heads up & throwing it together. Money saved on the heads will go to better conversion headers, exhaust, radiator, etc needed for the swap. This will be going in a '69 Camaro.

$1200 will buy you a set of brand new, ported, fully loaded 243 heads with a competition valve job from TSP. Probably a better option than investing that much into your 241's

Honestly for what you are describing I would be tempted to just use what you have as is. Maybe a set of head studs to make future swaps easier.
