question about ypipe

question about ypipe am getting a new exhaust soon, and since I cant get shorty headers for my car(got an email from BBK saying they don't make shorties for the 2000 model year V8) 
, I'm looking for a little more power elsewhere, so I'm going with the exhaust, and to add to that a Y pipe from SLP that doesn't have the "flattened" section behind the drivers side cat. But a friend of mine told me the bigger Y would increase the raspiness of my exhaust, BTW my exhaust of choice is narrowed down to 2, Borla adjustable and an SLP Powerflo system but instead of the SLP bullet muffler, I would go with a Borla XR1 bullet. Opinions?? Thanks
