Default To sump or not to sump???

Hey guys I am starting a project soon and need some advice and info. I am going to be putting a 5.3 LS into a 64 nova wagon. It's a budget minded build and will be turbo'd eventually. I am just wondering what the purpose is behind sumping a factory fuel tank instead of using a draw straw setup to pull the fuel out. I am use to newer GM vehicles that you just swap the pump in the basket and be on your way so I am sorry for the stupid question. Also is sumping a factory tank the only option or can I do something else using the factory tank. I do not want to run any type of aftermarket fuel cell. Thanks in advance!!
