Default 96 3.23 posi unit work in 98 3.42?

I've got a96 formula with a 3.23 original gear set..... I put 4.10 ring and pinion in and it didn't get done right. I found a good buy on a 98 3.42 rear end that needs a new posi. Can I just drop mine in and be good? Or would it have to be reshimmed and set to my unit?

both the 96 and the 98 would have 3 series auburns and if the 98 is dimensionally identical to the 96,it would be a drop-in. if not dimensionally identical, lash would have to be checked/adjusted. new bearings would also require a check/adjust.

Shim sets from one rearend will most likely not work in a different housing. Parts will interchange, but the actual setup(pinion depth and backlash settings) will need adjusted.
