2004 E55 AMG vs bolt on 5.0
My buddy just picked up this 2004 E55 AMG and wanted to test it out against a stock 5.0 to see where he stood. Didn't have much luck finding any stockers, but we did run into a fellow tech member, BlackGasGuzzler, so we set up a run!
ChuckBeastwood - 2004 E55 AMG, bone stock
BlackGasGuzzler - 5.0 GT, intake, X-pipe, exhaust, tune (not 100% sure on exact mods so he can chime in if I got them wrong)
Run starts in 1st gear and goes until around 115-120ish. The little hesitation from the 5.0 is because he lifts quick then gets back in it. Also, not that it would have changed the outcome, but traction control was left on in the E55.
Oh, and don't mind my awesome editing. I threw it together quick just to protect faces/plates lol.

Never knew Boba Fett could bang gears like that! Haha. The E55 runs well for a stock 4100+ pound car. Especially considering this one is a pano roof. I'd be really curious to see what some light modifications would do.

That 5.0 chirped the **** out of 3rd gear hahaha that was awesome. Chirping an Sxxx body mustang is a whole lot diff than a new edge or older body when you're on bolt ons.

Hey guys, daytimes runs FTW for sure. This was a fun run. The E55 owner is very cool.
I let off b/c I wasn't sure if we left at the same time. Wanted to equalize momentum to make it as fair as possible.
Here's the mod list on the 5.0:
-AED tune
-Catless x-pipe
-GT500 mufflers
-Driveshaft
-Clutch
The car is also now 3.73 instead of 3.31. Getting it ready for the CJ setup! After looking at the race, I don't powershift now, but maybe I should. The car pulled harder on the quicker 3-4 than the 2-3. I'm still using the stock shifter, which I like, but I'm a little wary of the MT82. It should be able to handle the abuse, but ya never know.
EDIT: I started in 2nd. I think we rolled from like 30 or 35, and the E55 may have been in 1st off the hit. His gearing is a little different than mine, lol.

E55 will most likely get a few consistency mods more than anything. I don't think he plans to go crazy with it, but I'm sure a tune is in the cards as well as possibly headers and mufflers. The factory pieces are terrible from what I hear.

RJ I LMAO when I saw the editing If Toretto was driving I would've won LOL!
Thanks for the runs man and trying to even out the starts. Like I said before; regardless of the start I wasn't going to keep up on the big end but it was nice to see where my car stands against a bolt on 5.0.
I actually changed out the HE pump with a Bosch "10" unit this past Sunday. It already had a 10 pump in it but I swapped it anyways for peace of mind. As Nightmare said I will probably just do consistency mods for the time being (strap kit and better heat exchanger). Maybe next year when the Viper is done I'll throw some more mods at it but for now the car is plenty fun as it is
Make sure the heat exchanger pump is good, usually those go bad and rob some power. Love those e55's.

Fri nite test&tune at Island Dragway is a joke..a few drops of water from an A/C pales in comparison to the mud/sand/dirt/oil falling from the ATV's and lifted 4x4 trucks that launch in the street tire lane.....you'd have to see it to believe it

It's right up your alley The car is apart right now but it has a 4.5 on center Stage 2 with Stage 2 heads. I have some nice parts going into it that are still in boxes. Still needs a few big parts like a trans, engine management and turbo hotside but it should haul the mail when it's done. My Viper really screwed me on getting the build done but I'm thinking next year I'll start chipping away at it again.
