Question about differential whine
Hi all, maybe someone can tell me if I just wasted $1000.00. Last fall I bought a NICE 2002 Formula, LS1, NHRA Special Edition, w 62k miles on it. It has had a whine in the differential that starts at about 48-50 MPH. It is there weather I'm accelerating or going steady. Everything I've read says I have a bad pinion bearing. Took it in to a local shop and they stethoscoped it and said it sounds like the pinion bearing. So they redid the whole thing. All new main bearings, pinion bearings and wheel bearings. They said all were shot. Guess what, $1000 later, same whine. Can anyone else with a similar car tell me if theirs does this too?

It is common, even after a rebuild from a reputable shop. My first ten bolt I busted (17 years old) I had rebuilt by a very reputable shop, came back with a soft whine from 45-55mph. It lived another 100k miles before I sold it and is still alive today to my knowledge, same whine.
