Piece rattling in exhaust behind cat. My car was in the air to check the ac compressor when the mechanic banged the exhaust w/ his fist. It sounds like there is one piece rattling around in front of the collector on the driver side. I don't hear it in the car thankfully. I guess this is the beginning of the end for the cat? The car did pass emissions roughly a month ago. My question is would this affect gas mileage or only 02's control that?

Well id just take it apart and visually look at it to see whats going on. Obviously if its rattling then something might be loose in there so it's obstructing the flow of the exhaust. Pull cat off and see whats up.
