Default Project "Smokey" 4th gen drift missile

The other car, "The Bandit" is just taking to long, and I have all these spare parts from it. So I canned my Volvo missile project (which also required alot of fab/time) and picked up a Camaro chassis last weekend. Its sole purpose is to be cheap and that I can have it running in 2-3 weeks.

Chassis w/8.8 - $1500 - swap 8.8 for 10 bolt and $550
+
Sell all interior from chassis - $500
=
Free chassis

I have all the stock style suspension from my bird to put on the camaro. I also have a spare T56, spare clutch setup, Y pipe, headers, LS6 intake, and just about everything else. This is why this is so appealing over the volvo. I think the only thing I need is seats. I'll spray paint the car black and white like a B4C police setup so it can chase the bird next year. I'm keeping track of the money closely because I think this is the cheapest way to get in to drifting.

One big thing thats missing from that^ is the engine, I unfortunately sold my spare LS1 a few months back. So I went I'm moving ahead with the Volvo's planned engine in the camaro, a super cheap LR4. I currently have 3 of them. Eventually it will see some boost. For now it will just get my do-all LS1 cam.

PLEASE keep this updated

Im swapping an ls2 into my LT1 car, so im debating doing this. I have all the brakes/components from my z28 that I was thinking of picking up a v6 chassi and putting the lt1 in (or buying a cheap 5.3) and throwing on a set of your knuckles.

I got sick last night, otherwise the car would be totally gutted now. Stupid ragweed. FWIW, I have $475 in all 3 LR4's, which will get a set of my hand ported 241's. So the cam is the most expensive part of the engine lol. I also have a spare LS1 K member since my chassis is a Z28 if you get a V6

I always forget to take pictures of this thing.

Swapped over entire fuel system from my bird, gutted, made LCA's and PHB, and Spec is warranty-ing the clutch disc for me. So it'll get my old spec 3+ instead of junk I had laying around. Sold one LY6 I had for $250 to basically pay for the LR4's. Sold 8.8 and all interior. So right now the $650 I have in the cam and cam kit are my only OOP expense.

Total cash in project right now - $650 + $300 for bolts and gaskets

Does anyone make angle kits for the camros yet or is it all DIY? If you need help on getting more angle out of your car and suspension geometry feel free to pm me.

I make kits. This car is just getting some cut and weld uprights though. I have a much more elaborate setup for my other car.

Finally getting back around to this thing...started another business in November.

First up I made an Hvac plate - scrap 6061

Then I quickly ported the 241's two weeks ago, in two nights, so nothing special

Buttoned most of the engine up and tried out one of my LS3 oil pans, took a lot to make it work but it should be worth it since it has baffles, and I already had the pan

Hopefully this little 4.8L makes 350hp

Now I've got to fix my Yukon this weekend to get the engine home, and I'm waiting to get some spindles back from customers...I have zero...again. I also need to coat my rusty Hooker headers that I bought for $25. Thinking of trying some of my cerakote H. Should be better than nothing at least

Yes sir!! I had planned to put the engine and tranny in this week/weekend. Just waiting on my tag for my "new" yukon so I can drive the engine home now. Stupid used car dealership has taken over a month and a half to get it to me. Still waiting on some uprights to come back in too! Always something.

I planned to put the engine in the car this weekend, but on monday my ARP balancer bolt seized in the crank. Tried a lot of different things to get it out to no avail. Drove the yukon to the shop today to take the engine over to TEC to put a 1" impact on it, and the front planetary gave up the ghost on the way there...hopefully next week will be a little better.

I totally forgot to take pictures of my crazy setup...I put the engine on the lathe bed, put a block on the back of the crank, used the tail stock to put pressure on the balancer, and beat the pulley on. Welded washer to pulley and bolt. Job done. Better than spending $220 on an engine that that was $200 total lol. When it blows up I'll throw the other one in
