Default Knock Retard??

Hello everyone I always hear someone mentioning KR was wondering if someone can explain what KR is? how does it effect the car? what does it do? what causes it?

It's "knock retard" and refers to the ignition timing advance that the computer pulls when the knock sensors are triggered when detonation (commonly called "pinging") in one or more cylinders takes place. The problem is, these knock sensors are VERY often triggered by things other than detonation. This is referred to as "false knock" or "false KR". Pulling timing advance lower than necessary will cause reduced power.

What actually happens during detonation is combustion in the cylinders is occuring before the spark plugs create a spark. This can be caused by lean fuel mixture, bad gas, too much timing, etc.

hey colonel you mentioned that its often triggered by things other then detonation...can you give a few examples please...and how do you know if you have KR do u have to get diagnostic software (EFI Live, auto tap?)
