Default Honed but not bored

From what I have read a 98 LS1 can be honed but not bored. So what is the right time to try to rebuild? The car has 81,000 on it so I think it should be left stock as far as cam, heads ect.Would I be better off doing a rebuild or would another short block assembly be the best idea?

the 98's can only be "bored" .005, which amounts to pretty much just a clean up. it depends on what your goals and application and budget are that should determine if a rebuild or new shortblock are in order.
