Default Guage hookup

I need the best place to pick up a switched 12 and the dimmer for my water temp and shiftlight. I originaly had the shiftlight tapped into the pick wire under the steering column with a crimp style line tap but that was a piece of crap and shedded the wire in half today. I want to be able to properly do it and have it fused. Would that only leave me to tap/solder to the back of the fuse box? I don't think I can get an iron back there. It is a little tight with the door there. Could I tap the wires behind the TCS switch? It seems that would be the most roomy place for me to work. Thanks all.

If you are thinking about the TCS switch, you can use the wires behind the radio. There should be more room there to work.
