Default Stuck in the 11.30s!

I threw the stock LS6 intake back on the car and headed out to Carlsbad for a few more TNT runs. Traction was decent, and weather was in the low 70s.

I took six runs, all of them in the 11.3s. My best was 11.33@119.92 1.607 60' time. I had another 11.37@119.97 1.687 60' time. It's a bit frustrating because I've run 7.17 in the 1/8th mile before, but was stuck in the 7.2s all day today. I was using the 26" hoosiers and was spinning them every run.

I discovered today that although my reverse flow EWP knocks .05ths off my ET, it also knocks .5 mph off my mph. I've decided its not worth using. I'll either try the meziere or just keep the water pump stock. I also didn't bother locking up the torque converter today. I've done it in the past and picked up 1.5mph, but it never improves my ET so I don't see the point.

It's become clear that unless I start taking weight or trailer the car to Texas I'm going to be stuck in the low 11s. There isn't much more I'm willing to do in the weight area (race weight of around 3400#) so its back to the power game for me.

I put an order in for a 11.5:1 MMS 388ci shortblock, with a 236 duration version of my current 229v2.1 camshaft. I'm planning on keeping the same torque converter and gears at first. I figure the new shortblock combined with a little more headwork (2.1 intake valves, match combustion chamber to bore) should be worth 30-40rwhp and a solid .3ths. Scott's car might be 200# lighter than mine, but he can't compete with cubic dollars.

Hell I would be happy with 11.30's on motor, that new setup should be nice...

Trailer the car to Texas. You got lane choice

terry why are you still stuck at 1.6x short times? i mean isnt 1.5x pretty easy with that big time convertor? just wondering. you have the slowest 60' of all the fast cars.

The 1.60 was a fluke I was cutting 1.65-1.69 all day. I've cut 1.56 at another 1/8th mile track. I just can't get traction out here. I've tried several types and sizes of slicks, VHT, I bought hals/drag springs, I took weight off the front, etc. My tires just spin off the line at Carlsbad, LACR, Pomona, and Bakersfield. Car hooks well at Irwindle but again thats only 1/8th mile.

Terry why dont u try a 4.30 and a 27in Hoosier? That shoud give u more rolluot and the lower gear will get the car off the line ever so quicker. There's a 10.99999 in the car for sure.U just need to wait til the fall.

The 4.56/28 isnt that bad on the street.
But I still dont know if I made the right choice? Will see?

See u r finding out its not that easy to run 10's on motor with a 346.I know my car wont go that quick with me in it either. Its too heavy. If I lose 100lb then i have a shot.I need to be at 3400 to 3450 to try and run 10's.With a lighter driver in some of that SUB ATCO AIR,I think the car will run 10's but I cant count someone elses time if there driving.Well at least your trying.

The LU is worth ithe big ***** syndrome so I use it.But your right its not worth ET.I'm going down to Atco Tues.I hope to run in 11 TEENS with me in the car?

Will see?
FWIW the car has gone 122 at a race weight of 3470lbs.And I've gone as fast as 120.08 unlocked but the car didnt hook and only ran 11.34?I still dont have my Kmemever or the other 25 lbs outta the car.

I am going on a diet. Will see if I can get in shpae for BG/THUNDERS RACE Events.

Good luck
Still quicker than u

The simple answer is that traction out here sucks. A 1.60 is a really good short time for our cars here.

Remember I was running .35 quicker.

$5 says I get into the 10's NA before you. You better hang out at MMS everyday and get that 388 done before I see any good weather up here in Oregon. Or maybe I'll just make that trip to Sacramento. The season begins this friday night up here. Now why isn't my lockup switch working anymore??

Maybe the offset ground crank 6.0L sitting in the shop will get the nod this year after all.

BTW, how much did you pickup at Carlsbad vs. Bakersfield? I need to judge just how close I am to 10's.

Good luck getting past JS. LOL

Right now the 4.10s are OK but in the future I'll be swapping to 3.73s. When I switch from 3.23s to 4.10s I only picked up .05ths, so I also don't know that more gear would help. I've also tried a couple sets of 28" slicks with no real gain (still spun them). I think the answer is more low end power and maybe a little less gear.

My best at Fomoso was 11.45@118, my best at Carlsbad was 11.33@~120. I think you're close to 10s at a decent hooking track.

Terry,
you may actually speed up a little with the 3.73 surprisingly enough if it allows you to hook a little better
Nice times BTW, dont give up on the HC package yet Did you lost any mph with the 28's vs the 26's? More consistent?
I had a REAL hard time hooking on the 26 inch slick.
Cheers,
Chris

I guess I'll have to prove u wrong
Well u could go back to 26in/3.73 and cross at 6000 which is hurting your MONSTER cam peaks. But its your car.If your not hooking then u need to find out why.My car hooks and if I can get the NEW tire/gear combo to get me that .05 u got in the first 60ft,I'm gonna go 10's or real close.

Truely hoping for 11 TEENS's tommorrow.

I run a pretty decent size stall anyway so my RPMS are never below 5000rpm no matter what gear set I run. I'm open for suggestions on making my car hook. So far I know its not the tires or the way I'm driving the car.

Chris no real change. I'd drop about .5 mph, but traction and consistancy were the same. Since it didn't effect my times much I'm pretty sure I can get away with 3.73s/26" tires.

You need to play with your suspension more, I hooked a 1.60 out here with 28" MH racemasters which are like MT Sportsman Pros. Try 1/1 in the front with the Hals, 15psi in the tires, and 5-6 second burnout, have the gear selector in 2nd, and click into 3rd at the end and roll out.

My best was 1.53 at bakersfield on DOT tire, I think low 1.4's with a little more power and Full Slicks are completely doable...and then a little more weight reduction.

Terry after watching a couple of your videos, your car is tweaking more than mine on the launch. I'm launching a little sraighter. Do you have the RR airbag? And it's not stabalizing as quick...meaning the front end bounces around a little bit when it sets back down. You might try the hal's in the rear and set the RR up a notch or two. Also, run the fronts at 2. But then again, I'm running the Eibach prokit so our setups are a little bit different. Oh, and drop the front end back down.

"I think the answer is more low end power and maybe a little less gear."

I don't think that is the answer. Anything below 4400-4600rpm's is pretty much worthless. And dropping gear will hurt your 60's if you have traction with each scenario. If I'm not mistaken, that sounds like a cam change???????

Hey did my car pull the wheels on that launch? I'd love to see a video of the car leaving. The car bounces around with the hals at 1 but hooks a bit better than the 2 setting. I'm probably going to throw my stock V8 springs in the back (instead of the drag launch springs), and maybe try some new lower control arms (I run stock now). I'll probably lower the front end down about an inch.

Re my long term plans I'm thinking a little less gear and a higher RPM power band. With more power I won't have to work the converter as hard to a good 60' time. It's when I really flash the converter that I have traction problems.
