Default Are ET Streets better than Hoosier QTP's?? My QTP's suck and don't grip!!!!!!

I don't know what is the deal. I got 26x9.5x16 Hoosier QTP's which I was told would be plenty wide for a bolt on car. They are mounted to my stock 16x8 rims. I went to the track on them for the first time, burned them really well, and could never cut better than a 1.9 60ft time. They never hooked unless I bogged it or didn't rev the engine too high. The track prep sucked which didn't help either, but still.

I had another buddy drive my car (who also knows how to drive) and he said the same thing. They just aren't hooking. Another guy at the track who has been racing for 10 yrs told me the QTP's suck compared to ET streets and that he'll never run QTP's again!!!

I had 26x11.5x16 ET streets on the car for 1 pass a while back, and they seemed too hook better than the QTP's. I only got the QTP's because they were 3lbs lighter per tire than the 26x11.5x16 tires.

Any suggestions??? Should I switch to the wider ET streets???

verbs, Honestly Theres really No contact patch, Now On a Auto Car the Shock isnt As Hard as with A 6Spd Car. i always ran et streets and never had a problem, Consistent 1.55-1.60 60fts leaving at 4500 Dumping the clutch.

Put some wider Slicks on the car, And watch it go.

Lower the tire pressure to 10-12#.
It also has alot to do with track prep.Last week I had to slip the clutch@3400.
best of 1.87 60ft.
I have cut low 1.7 on them though.Still haven't been able to come out higher
than 4k.
I'll give them a few more chances,If I can't get 1.6x's on 'em ,I'll go full Hoosier
slick.

What kind of pressure are you running them at?

I use them and I couldnt be happier! Last year I was putting down a lot more power than you are now and cutting 1.57-1.61

Id experiment with different tire pressures while you are at it. Seeing that you have an aftermarket torque arm too, I'd make sure that your TRUE pinion angle is between -2 and -4 degrees.

Good luck.

I have the factory springs/shocks and no airbag, and I know those hurt a bit, but still. I should be able to at least cut 1.7's!!

I'm wondering if the combo of the tires being new and bad track prep were to blame. My tires are only 9.5" wide so I thought maybe they weren't wide enough to grip??? I dunno.

Guy's with double my horsepower and huge slicks were only cutting 1.8's that night as well...so maybe I need to get out there on a different track and see.

M6s with abusive clutches need good amount of tire IMO. I run 11.5" (28x11.5x15) QTPs and cut 60's in the 1.6x range regularly but have degraded quite a bit since the tires have gotten older.

i have been able to cut 1.6x's consitently this year on them, and that was spinning fairly hard. if you have tubes and a strong rearend then you should be ok to go down to 12 psi "cold" after heating them they'll be at about 14psi. just my experience and opinion.

g'luck, and enjoy figuring out how to launch the car. that is the best part

I cut consistant 1.50-1.52 60 fts with my 27x11.5 Qtp's. Run them with 12.5-13lbs and a medium smokey burn out. For a bolt on car, I'm happy with them.

The QTP's are a good tire. I had the 26X10.5X15 ET Streets and cut mid 1.5X's. I switched to the QTP 26X11.5X15 and cut high 1.4X's to low 1.5X's. Now I have the full 26X10X15 Hoosier slick and they seem to be the same. The DOT tire actually turned out to be a little wider than the full slick. I'm going to try the 28X10X15 soon.

Stay with the QTP it's a good tire. It's more than likely track prep. Also, 12lbs is too low, anything lower than 14.5 for me and I spin worse and float around more going down the track. 12 lbs can be scary.

I run the 27x11.5-15 QTP's and the hook awesome for me. Several 1.48-1.49 60' times with a 6spd car. I run about 12 psi hot....they wrinkle and I'm gone.

With tubes I would have gone under 15psi.

verbs, I saw you at the track--I was the black SS stuck in 12.9 land--I've got issues with my car, but I won't go into it. I have to admit that I had the same problems with launching--all of my runs consisted of a deep stage and a roll on so as not to spin unmercifully. My best 60' was 1.88 on BFG KDW 275/40/17--granted my car's an auto. I'm glad to hear that someone else thought the track prep sucked, I was getting worried. Let me know if you need someone to test out your slicks on another car
