Arrow Milling on 317's

I have a couple of questions and concerns about milling down the 317 casting heads for a ls1 camaro. What should they be milled to retain stock compression on a 98 ls1 that does have JE pistons and stock thickness gaskets? Second, how well will these heads hold up after milling in terms of reliability for a daily driver? (granted milling is done by a qualified machine shop) With stock valves in the 317's what kind of power can I expect with the TR224 cam, MAC headers, 3.73's on a M6? How much do machine shops nromally charge to do milling like this?
Any help/advice would be GREATLY appreciated thaks

I too have a set of 317 castings. I had them milled to bring the compression
back up to stock to go on my 2000 short block. I went with larger valves, springs and had the bowls ported.
I will be installing them along with a TR224 cam next week when I return home from Va. I expect them to flow alot better than my stock heads. It cost me $60.00 to have the shaved. There is an article concerning head casting cc info just do a search. It is my understanding that .005" equats
to about 1cc.

stock unmilled 6.0 heads w/ stock gasket puts you at 9.6.
millled .030 w/ stock gasket puts you back at stock 10.1 compression.
unmilled 5.3 heads w/ stock gasket is 10.8.

guess you missed the sticky at the top
