Default What converter will give me the best trap speed?

I have a Yank 2800 converter now. My trap speeds seem kind of low. I have all the bolt on's (except a pulley). I have LT headers and a 224/224, .581"/.581", 114 LSA cam. My trap speeds are around 112 mph. I think it should be a little faster. Maybe I am wishful thinking.

Well the key is to get your average RPM through the ¼ mile run higher. With a 2800 stall and 3.23 gears you should be dropping to ~3800-4000 rpm after each shift (aka shift extension).
If your car is mainly a daily driver with little track duty then I would go with a TCI Super Street Fighter 3500 converter. This converter will give a ~4300 shift extension. If your car is mainly a track car then go with a TCI 4400 converter. This converter will have a shift extension of ~5400 rpm.
Both converters will give you better ¼ times.

John

YTP 4000 would really help. The SY 3500 also is great from a roll if you want a street converter, but its low STR isn't the best for ET unless you do not use nittos or slicks at the track.

112 mph in the summer is not bad. What was the DA when you ran?

Full weight 2000 T-top Z28 lid cutout 3.73's and the SY3500 trapped 109mph. No weight reduction whatsoever. I'm selling the SY3500 since I went with a manual...PM if you're interested.

Are those the only mods you have on the car? What do you want for the converter?

500 plus shipping...i'm in chicago. I can email you pictures this weekend if you like...plus my time slip. Just gotta give me your email address.

I also had a driveshaft loop and drag radials...but that's it.

*Edit - If you're looking for a setup to 60 foot better than the 1.7X range, then this converter may not be for you. My best was a 1.82 on nittos. I really think I could cut a better 60 if I had more power or played with the air pressure more...but this converter is more of a compromise for racing on the street and at the track than purely track. I don't want to give you any false impressions since 500 bucks is alot of money to throw down. That being said it is a great converter and if you like to put the power to the ground on the street...i'd recommend it.
