Default Just bought Polished Z06 wheels from AFS, are they clearcoated?

It's Sunday and I decided to go outside and give my new rims a good polishing. So I busted out the Mothers Aluminum Polish and I can't get the polish to turn black although the wheel appears to have some oxidation on it. I haven't even monted the wheels yet and I don't feel like calling AFS if I don't have to.

Anyone know if these wheels are clearcoated?

Thanks

If they are clearcoated, the metal polish will haze them. Do you see hazing in the area you were working?

It doesn't look like it is hazing, but the wheels don't appear to be getting any shinier and the polish isn't turning black. Should I try and wetsand the oxidation out?

My girlfriend has a '04 Grand Prix GTP with 17" polished wheels that came stock with the car. Those wheels look like chrome (better IMO), that's why I bought these polished wheels, but whatever I try short of wetsanding I can't get them to look like hers, any ideas?

Are these wheels brand new? Probably won't get any better if they are new.

You really need to call AFS.

No, I bought them from a guy off ebay who never mounted them, so I'm thinking it's just some oxidation from them sitting. I'm gonna try wetsanding tonight to see if it helps. Thanks.

I always thought the ZR1 rims had a clear coat on them so you couldn't use metal polish on them?

AFS sells both a polished wheel and a clearcoated polished wheel. Maybe the seller can tell you if they were coated or not.
