pre-load on hyd. lifters

pre-load on hyd. lifters
Heres my concern.....i was putting the engine back together,,,and when it came time to check pushrod lenght this is what happened
cam 222/224/566/568 112
heads are milled .025
The lifters are suppose to have .020-.040 of pre-load mine had about .100-.120.
so to me i will have to go with shorter pushrods--7.30-7.35's
I've notice there is not alot of talk about pre-load on the lifters...r you guys just putting the stock 7.40's back in with out checking pre-load???
Or am i to concerned with this matter. I'm going to talk to comp cams tomorrow about this but in there directions they make it VERY CLEAR. So what r you guys doing????

Are you using stock lifters or comp-r's? The stock ones are fine with all sorts of preload it seems. The comp-r's want 20 thousanths or so (half a turn on the bolt). Shorter pushrods are one way to get what you are looking for.
I'm running 10 thousanths preload on my setup, 0.030" milled heads, 7.35" pushrods.

I running stock lifters....You say your putting preload in the lifter by turning the bolt after 22lbft.??? You really should have the pre-load at 22lbft. if i'm understanding it correctly.
I did by the 7.35's tonight but at the same time i'm hit the MAX preload with this and if i go with the 7.30's i would have to shimm....
Slowhawk....you were getting the same numbers...thats great to hear <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" /> I thought maybe i was the only one..I think they come from the factory with the wrong pre-load or something. If i do the math----hear me out-- my new cam's base circle is .074 smaller than my stock one...so cut that in half is about .037 and then subtract my milled head amount .025 i should have come up with .012 to play with..meaning i should have to buy a larger pushrod not a shorter one...but all in all the reading i'm getting now says i need to go shorter...
