street/strip wheel and tire help
well i have never run my car at the drag strip yet. right now i have 18 inch c5 wheels on 275/35 nitto 555's. i was thinking of going down to 17 inch c5's with a different tire so i can race with them and drive on the street. anybody have any advice on which wheel/tire combo to use for this. i want tires that will keep me safe in rain, etc... but will give me some great traction at the track. make sense? thanks in advance

Re: street/strip wheel and tire help
If they're just going to be used primarily for strip use and occasional street abuse, your best bet would be a pair of 16" Nitto or BFG drag radials mounted on stock wheels. A 16" tire will work better than a 17" will, and you can pick up the wheels fairly cheap.
You don't mention what kind of car you have, though... I don't know if a stock 16" F-body wheel will work on a C5, though.

If you're really concerned about the looks, then go with the 17" C5 wheels and some 17" Nitto drag radials. You'll be giving up some potential over a 16", but that really won't make much difference since you're just wanting to make a very occasional weekend trip to the strip.
