Default building a 3in "catback" for a C5

I've got a great exhaust shop in my area and I'm thinking about getting them to build me a 3" catback for my C5. I'd pattern it after the borla stinger system:
http://www.borla.com/applications/lo...System/140017/

With these XR1 oval race mufflers or maybe the Magnaflow race mufflers:
http://www.eadperformance.com/catalo...roducts_id=315
or maybe http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/02race.asp

And (flame suit on) these "race style" exhaust tips from this ricer company aptly named banzai. Look at the bottom of the page for the ones I'm looking at. The borla stingers have a 4" non-rolled edge angled cut tip, but I think a 4" rolled edge angled cut tip would look better:
http://www.coneeng.com/banzai/competit.htm

My car with PP stg2 heads, fm13 cam, and full bolt ons dyno'd lower than I expected at 395/376. The tuner said one of the things I needed to fix was my exhaust; specifically: "your cam basically wants to have as free-flowing exhaust as you can give it". I've got TPIS headers that have a 2.75in collector that immediatly gets restricted down to a 2.5" flange. I've got an xpipe and z06 exhaust but it's 2.5in all the way back. So I'm wanting to go 3" all the way from the headers to the exhaust tips with a 3" xpipe and the XR1 oval mufflers between it all. I figured another reason to do this is that I'll eventually spray a 100-125 shot of the juice. More flow more go?

So here's the questions:

- The muffler on the Borla Stinger is small enough to do a straight shot from the over-axle pipes. Why did Borla put the bends in there? I read somewhere online that when using small water pipes for AC lines, a 90deg bend is equivalent to adding an extra 20ft of linear pipe. Airflow wouldn't be that much different, so why design a muffler system that adds so much length? Does this increase the backpressure more? Reduce the sound level? Maybe eliminate in-cabin resonance?

- I read about you f-body guys putting 3in exhaust all the time on your fbodies... stock, h/c, FI, and big cubes. I posted on a couple of corvette-only boards about doing a full 3" exhaust and they immediately said I don't need it "only making 400rwhp". (It reminds me of a few years ago when people were saying you're not going to see any aftermarket intake manifolds for LS1 engines because GM designed the LS6 manifold so efficiently. So now we have a LSX intake, lol.) I see more and more people on this board putting 3" exhaust on STOCK cars, and I see more and more tuners doing it to H/C cars. Any thoughts on this?

- Any guesses to what my exhaust sound level would be like? My guess is that it would sound similar to the "borlamouth". (Loudmouth with a borla XR1 muffler added.)

Again I'm just toying with the idea of getting a shop to weld this up for me. I might just end up buying a stinger exhaust, keeping the z06 exhaust, or having the shop weld the mufflers onto the pipes right after they come from over the axle.

Don't let me down guys!

I thought I was coming up with something here... but apparently someone else on here has already done this!

Now if I can get those pix from him!

Everyone who has heard this system loves it. Its not too crazy at idle and has a crazy bark. I'll take another video tonight or tomorrow and post it. Its sick.
