Default Ported MAF on A4 car...could it have damaged my tranny?

Hello all. I picked up a '00 Formula A4 with 8k miles last night. I thought the MAF was just descreened but I just took it off and it looks like it was ported. I ordered a new MAF from the Pontiac dealer so it's going to be replaced. My question is could 8,000 miles of driving with a ported MAF have damaged my transmission? Thanks in advance.

How about descreening the MAF on an A4? I know this has been debated to death over the years but I'm just wondering if there is potential damage to a stock 4L60E from simply using a stock descreened MAF, which, contrary to popular belief, did seem to help performance on my car btw.

I think descreening is okay. Personally I say don't **** with it if you have an A4. If you have an M6, descreen is a decent freebie mod, and porting should only be done with a tune.

Decreased line pressure is what most will say the problem is..

I ran a ported MAF on my car till I put the H/C on ~48K miles. I did not see any excessive tranny wear that could be attributed to it.

If your tranny has issues, I'll bet it has more to how the previous owner treated it than the MAF.

Can someone please enlighten me as to how a MAF could possibly affect the transmission?? That sounds so obsurd... does it have to do with vacuum lines or something?

I dont think of myself as that much of a noob...but maybe.

When the line pressure is decreased, the tranny will have a tendency to shift harder which ultimately can lead to excessive wear and damage. One person on here said he forgot to connect his MAF sensor and the tranny was shifting unusually hard.

As others stated it's likely related to line pressure issues but they also left out the part of how it gets to that point in the event that that's actually what you were asking...it's all tied into the computer/PCM, signals to/from the MAF can and will effect other parameters about the car, our 4L60E transmissions are computer controlled so there is that connection between the MAF and the trans as well.
