I just finished up a transmission mount in a 02 ss with a 4l80e. it looks good, will be very strong, and clear the exhaust. I will try and get pics up soon. I am trying to judge the intrest in having them manufactured.Anyone that has any questions, or is seriously interested, post, and I will try and answer anything I can.

How much bigger are the 80e's compared to a 400 turbo. We were wanting to put one in our 67 El Camino but the trans shop said they were to big and we'd have to cut the floor. I thought this was bunk and probaby going to try anyway. I thought they were pretty much a 400 with an extra gear?

Here is my 4L80E out of a '99 3500 HD
This is after I put a regular tailhousing on it, notice how the bolt on yoke doesn't go in all the way, it still works.
I got rid of the HD tail housing, it's huge and looks nothing like this one.
Heres a '95 4L80E next to a TH400. This 4L80E uses a slip on yoke only, notice the th400 has a bolt on yoke, this is what it's supposed to look like on the '99 trans in the other pic.

I think you're in luck. I just measured the '95 trans I have and it has 5 1/4 inches of splines, it came out of a 1 ton van with a slip yoke.
My '99 4L80E out of the 3500HD only has about 3 inches of splines. It's for use with a bolt on yoke only I think.
You should be able to use any th400 or 4L80E slip yoke.
If you're not going for insane power you can use the yoke out of a 4x4 S-10 or S-10 blazer with an NP231 transfer case, it's the same thing that was in the one ton van as far as length, it did use a different size ujoint though.
The yoke that came out of my '95 trans has 5" of splined tube before it stops at the u-joint. Hard to explain.
The yoke I have looks just like this one. From this page.

My yoke came out of a '93 s-10 blazer that had 130,000 miles on it and it looks brand new. I'd use it if I were doing the swap. Compare the $10 junkyard price to the one on the link.
Unless of course you've got tons of power.

Also used to beat the crap out of the same size u-joints with a manual trans.
I would guess you're getting a custom driveshaft or having yours shortened?
It would be best to make sure what ever size you get up front, you can put on the rear too, if you have a 12 bolt you can get yokes for bigger u-joints,for that too.

?
jason thanx again, i ordered the one with bigger joints, and about my driveshaft i was thinking of using my original one, i was told that it would fit or if not i have adjustable control arms mayb i can move my diffential a 1/2 inch or so back in order to fit and yes it is a 12 bolt, as far as the crossmember i was told i could use a crossmember of a ls1 that had a manual trans in it.
