00 z28 vs. 95 GT

Tonight me with my 2000 z28 ran my friend with his 95 Gt just for fun and since he just installed a couple of items. My mods are Lm exhaust, ftra, lid, and 160 t stat, and his mods are Timing to 14*, Longtubes, MAC Prochamber,
Dynomax Bullet Race Mufflers, 3.73's, Pro-M 80MM MAF, 24# Injectors,
Edelbrock Performer 5.0 Intake Manifold, Kirban AFPR, Aluminum U/D Pulleys,
Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter, and Smog Pump Pulley. We did 2 runs from a 40 and 45 mph roll since his tires are pretty shot in the rear. Keep in mind I have a auto and he's manual.
45 roll: He's at around 4600 rpm's and im around 3k or so. He honks it off 3 times, he jumps out 3-4 feet on me, it stays that way for a second then I pull next to him and it was even for a few seconds until i creeped on him. He was on my bumper when we had to shut off around 100 mph.
40 roll: He was in a good spot in 2nd gear and pulls about a half car in head of me, then I creep out on him again and we shut down around 100 again with him being a couple feet from my bumper.
So those were my races for tonight. He is getting DR's real soon and I am getting my headers and y pipe installed then we will run again and prolly post a video.
Now my question is shoulden't I have been able to take him by more than just a measly 1 car length??? My air lid was not sealed correctly along the sides if that matters. (fixed today)

I would have but he would just spin in first gear since he has crappy tires now and I just went along with his speeds to go from in his 2nd gear. After his tires we will go from a 1st gear roll...still think I shoulda faired better against a stock heads/cam five oh.

my stock lt1 dusted 94-98 gt's by about 2 car lengths my camaro that had my ls1 in it beat gt's by about 4-5 car lengths i say you have a problem or your buddys car isnt all that stock some folks say yeah i am stock RIGHT other than the 125 shot of spray after you race them

A4's are not that great between 40 and 50 MPH unless

Racing from 45 MPH is probably the wrost speed to start. If you started at 20 to 30 MPH, your car would have downshifted and you would have taken off. Instead, it putted away at 3000 RPMS.
Get long tube headers, a stall converter (new gears if you don't have the 3.23s) and a LS1 edit tune to dial in all your mods to the computer. Put it on a credit card with a low interst if you don't have the cash. You will be SERIOUSLY PLEASED with the results. Your buddy will need some kind of power adder (supercharger or NOS) to beat you.
